Defining and Visualizing Concepts
1. List two concepts highly relevant to your sociological
focus. Briefly state why you would like to learn more about them and especially
why you would like to build multimedia around them.
Two concepts that are highly relevant to my sociological
focus are education and teaching in media.
I would like to learn more about these concepts and build multimedia
around them because both education and teaching are the basis of the progress
of people and nations
renaissance, and they are the most important elements of
education.
2. Provide a brief description relative to how each
concept has been defined and measured
(i.e., operationalized) in the academic
literature (books and/or journal articles). In so doing, consult at least two
references per concept (be sure to provide citations for references (follow
citation style of American Sociological Review).
For education ,the article" Conductive
Education" by Ratiffe, Katherine T, Sanekane, Cindy. Discusses the importance of
education, learning disabilities and the
importance of developing learning environments for students and
help them achieve
their goals.
For teaching, the article" Techno Teaching" by
Anonymous. Discusses
the role of teaching in education
and that most
of the teachers
are trying to
develop teaching plans by embedding
technology.
3. For each concept, briefly describe how you might
approach it via multimedia representation.
Education via distance education.
Teaching through videos.
4. Relative
to A Periodic Table of Visualization Methods, determine the following for each
of your concepts:
a. Would “structure” or “process” visualization work
best?
I
think the visualization structure will work
best in education
and teaching, because the media has become a
necessity in training
and education.
b.
Which of the six broad types might be most applicable?
Either via the concept of metaphor or vision,
because the use of educational technology in the process of
teaching and learning
makes education more
effective and impact
among students.
c. Within that broad type, which particular visualization
device might be most appropriate?
The best way to
focus on images and learning map
because it best suited
for learning and
teaching
d. Run each concept through Wordnik,
Visuwords, Lexipedia, and Ngram Viewer. Did you discover anything noteworthy?
*Wordnik:
Education: A program of instruction of a
specified kind or level.
Teach: To
give instruction, especially as an occupation.
*Visuwords:
Education: knowledge by learning and
instruction.
Teach: A person whose occupation is teaching.
*Lexipedia:
Education: The knowledge acquired in school,
which person's mind and character.
Teach: impart skills or knowledge to.
*Ngram Viewer:
Education:
Teach:
What I found in the Wordnik, Visuwords, and
Lexipedia definitions are very similar but in the Wordnik view the
definitions was clear and easier. As for Ngram viewer is different in display
compared to others because it shows via the graph.
